Newcastle will be 'devastated' after source reveals Choudhury details - pundit
Newcastle United will be “devastated” that they were unable to get a deal for Hamza Choudhury over the line before the transfer deadline.
So says ex-Premier League goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after the loan swoop collapsed at the eleventh hour.
Football Insider revealed on deadline day that talks between Newcastle and Leicester City had been terminated and a St James’ Park source has updated to explain that the deal was once again “very close”.
It is understood that the Magpies were unable to offload a player to make room for Choudhury’s arrival in the squad.
Newcastle released a statement on 3 September that defended their relative lack of transfers this summer.
And they will be upset after the deal for the 23-year-old midfielder fell through, insists Kenny.

“They’ll be devastated to lose out on deadline day like that,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.
“He’s a good player but why leave it so late? There’s just no need. Why leave things to the last minute like that when you’ve had all summer?
“They haven’t been able to get rid of a player out of the squad and that’s meant they can’t register him.
“It just makes things more difficult for them now because they haven’t been able to strengthen and get that player they wanted.”
Choudhury is yet to feature for Leicester this season after making 22 appearances in 2020-21.
He would have been Newcastle third signing of the window after Joe Willock and Santiago Munoz.
