Next England manager: Pep Guardiola odds narrow after Man City man’s exit

Thomas Tuchel is the new favourite to take over at England after Lee Carsley fell short in their 2-1 UEFA Nations League defeat to Greece.

Carsley, 50, played all of Palmer, Bukayo Saka, Phil Foden, Jude Bellingham, and Anthony Gordon, but was unable to secure the victory at Wembley on Thursday (October 10).

A brace from Greek striker Vangelis Pavlidis was enough to win a memorable win and send Carsley’s odds of getting the Englan job permanently tumbling.

According to bet365, former Chelsea and Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel is the new favorite to take over and become the first German to manage England at 4/5.

Carsley remains in second, not far behind Tuchel on 9/4 with current Man City boss Pep Guardiola in third at 6/1. The legendary Spaniard’s odds have narrowed after his friend and ally Txiki Begiristain announced he will leave his role as Man City director of football at the end of the season.

Another former Chelsea boss Graham Potter is at 7/1, with Eddie Howe at 10/1 to leave St James’ Park and take over at England.

The odds then get a little longer for Frank Lampard who’s at 25/1, followed by Ipswich Town boss Kieran McKenna at 33/1.

England still looking for permanent manager after Greece defeat

Tuchel has been out of management since leaving Bayern at the end of last season with the German giants failing to win the Bundesliga title for the first time in a decade.

According to German outlet Welt TV, a return to management could be sooner rather than later with the 51-year-old reportedly in ‘advanced negotiations’ to become the new England boss.

For now, Carsley remains in charge, and he will lead the side out for their UEFA Nations League game against Finland on Sunday (October 13).

By the time the next international break roles around in November, England may well have a new man at the helm.
