Next Leeds manager: New favourite installed to replace Daniel Farke, he’s managed 88 Premier League games

Leeds United are continuing to contemplate sacking Daniel Farke as a new favourite has emerged to take over the reins.

Football Insider exclusively revealed that the Leeds dressing room were at “rock bottom” after their home defeat to Aston Villa, and they were hit with yet more frustration against Manchester City last weekend.

Leeds were beaten 3-2 at the Etihad Stadium, with Phil Foden’s stoppage-time winner providing a hammer blow after they had fought their way back into the contest.

Farke’s situation at Elland Road continues to grow graver by the game, and the Whites’ latest defeat may have just set the cogs in motion for his potential replacement to come to the fore.

Gary O’Neil the new favourite to replace Daniel Farke at Leeds

Football Insider revealed recently that Farke has two games to save his job at Leeds, and that was prior to their defeat to City at the weekend.

With their latest defeat leaving the West Yorkshire outfit still sitting inside the relegation zone, the end could be on the horizon for the boss in the coming days.

The Whites are set to welcome Chelsea to LS11 on Wednesday night, as they face anoher difficult assignment as Farke bids to keep his job.

However, there are already plenty of names in the running to take over from the German, and Gary O’Neil has promptly risen to become the favourite for the job after the weekend’s games.

The former Wolves chief has seen his odds drop to 7/4 on Monday, which puts him firmly at the top of the running at the moment.

Gary O’Neil’s Premier League record

O’Neil has been away from management since Wolves sacked him back in December 2024, but he can certainly count himself unlucky at the way the cards have fallen for him during his career in the dugout.

The 42-year-old lost his job at Molineux with the team inside the relegation zone, but his dismissal came just days after he received an indication of support from the board.

He was also previously sacked by Bournemouth, despite leading them safely away from the relegation zone in the 2022-23 campaign, and his record in the Premier League is respectable given the clubs that he has led.

O’Neil has taken charge of 88 Premier League games, and has overseen 25 wins in that time, leaving him with a win percentage of 28.41 per cent.

If he were to take charge of Leeds in the coming weeks, then the pressure would certainly be on for him to provide instant results.
