Phillips: Everton could sign speed machine if Nuno appointed amid major manager update

Nuno Espirito Santo could bring Adama Traore to Everton if he is appointed manager.

That is the view of 2000 European Golden Shoe winner Kevin Phillips, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about alternatives to Rafael Benitez at Goodison Park.

Benitez's move to Everton has stalled after fan protests.

Nuno Espirito Santo, 47, is currently the bookmakers' second favourite, behind Benitez, to succeed Carlo Ancelotti on Merseyside.

When asked by Football Insider's Dylan Childs if the 47-year-old would be a smart choice, Phillips said: "Nuno did a great job at Wolves.

"He brought in a crop of players who really responded well for him.

"Going in at Everton he would need a good few signings. They were poor for a lot of last season. He would need a decent transfer kitty but I am sure he will be promised funds.

"I think he will go back in for a few of the Wolves boys and he could even go in for Traore.

"I think it would be a big ask to get Everton into the top six next season but he has done similar things at Wolves.

"If Benitez isn't to be the man for them you could certainly do a lot worse than Nuno Espirito Santo."

Traore, who is renowned as one of the quickest players in the Premier League, would appear to fit the bill despite an indifferent season at Molineux in 2020-21 campaign.
