Shrewdest signing since Snodgrass among next three Leeds confirmed breakthrough players
Sam Dalby
Signed from Leyton Orient in January for a fee of £250,000, towering striker Dalby has made a big impact for the Under-23s. He has been pilfering goals regularly, but it is not just the number of them that is impressing onlookers. He demonstrated strength, composure and tight technique with his double against Ipswich Under-23s last month and followed that up with a goal against the Cardiff youth team that was straight out of the classic English number nine playbook. A left-flank free kick was met with a towering header from Dalby, who rise high about the defence to nod unerringly into the far corner. It was the type of goal that Andy Carroll would have been proud of. Standing at 6ft 2in, the big forward looks a star in the making and is shaping up to be the club’s shrewdest signing since Robert Snodgrass. He was included in the travelling party for last night’s defeat at Fulham and Paul Heckingbottom subsequently admitted, as quoted on BBC Leeds journalist Adam Pope’s Twitter account, that he could be playing for the seniors before too long.
