N’Golo Kante: Chelsea star’s stance on quitting revealed after talks
N’Golo Kante’s priority is to remain at Chelsea as his contract situation comes to a head, sources have told Football Insider.
This site revealed on Monday (24 April) that the Blues want to keep the 32-year-old at Stamford Bridge despite needing to trim the squad and balance the books this summer.
Kante’s big-money contract at Chelsea expires in June, and there has not yet been a breakthrough in discussions.
However, sources with knowledge of the situation have told Football Insider that the Londoners believe they can offload other stars in the summer window to raise the required funds within the wage bill.
The World Cup winner earns a reported £290,000-a-week on his current deal at the club.
It is believed that Kante is happy to stay at Chelsea despite their likely lack of European football in the 2023-24 campaign.
However, if he is to exit the club – the two-time Premier League winner is likely to have his pick of clubs at home and abroad.
Football Insider revealed on 27 February that Liverpool are closely monitoring Kante’s contract situation as they eye up a midfield overhaul in the summer.
Kante has made just six appearances for Chelsea across all competitions this season having only recently returned from a serious hamstring injury.
He has made 266 appearances in total for the club, notching 13 goals and 15 assists across seven years.

Chelsea moved to bolster their midfield options in the January window with the reported British-record £106.8million move for Enzo Fernandez.
The Londoners sit 11th in the Premier League after losing each of the last three games.
