Nico Raskin stuns, Vaclav Cerny dismal – Rangers player ratings in Hibs draw

Rangers were held to a 2-2 draw with Hibernian at Easter Road in an eventful final game of the Scottish Premiership season.

The visitors opened the scoring after just two minutes when Cyriel Dessers fired in following an error from Hibs ‘keeper Jordan Smith.

There was then huge controversy when Rangers looked to have doubled their lead when Nico Raskin looked to have clearly forced the ball over the line and into the side netting after a goalmouth scramble.

However, no goal was given, which allowed Hibernian to go up the end and equalise through Kieron Bowie, much to the frustration of interim ‘Gers boss Barry Ferguson.

With that ensuring a 1-1 scoreline at half time, the visitors re-took the lead just after the break when Raskin headed in a corner, only for Martin Boyle to deliver a second equaliser for Hibs after 66 minutes.

That was enough to force both sides to settle for a point apiece, though the visitors will feel it could have been more were it not for the controversy around that goal they saw ruled out.

Here is how Football Insider rated the performances of the Rangers squad during that clash with Hibernian on Saturday (17 May).

Jack Butland – 6

Back to back starts for Butland after a spell on the Rangers bench, though the ‘keeper didn’t have too many saves to make here.

James Tavernier – 7

Tavernier was slammed by Rangers fans against Dundee United, but was much better here with some dangerous set-pieces, not least with the assist from a corner for Raskin’s goal.

James Tavernier much improved

John Souttar – 6

A solid enough performance in the centre of defence from the 28-year-old despite some spells of Hibs pressure.

Leon Balogun (off for Propper, ’10) – 5

As Balogun looks to earn a new contract with Rangers, he lasted just ten minutes here before being forced off with injury.

Neraysho Kasanwirjo – 5

A first start of the calendar year following a long spell out with injury, which saw the Dutchman booked after a poor challenge.

Connor Barron – 6

This felt like another game where the former Aberdeen man couldn’t make the same impact as his central midfield partner.

Nico Raskin (off for Cortes, ’81) – 9 – Player of the Match

Raskin again showed why Rangers should be looking to keep him here. Unlucky with the goal controversy, a good header to score anyway and another all action display in midfield.

Vaclav Cerny (off for Rice, ’82) – 3

It remains to be seen if Cerny will be back at Ibrox with this the final game of his loan spell, where he was quiet and struggled to make much of a contribution.

Mohamed Diomande (off for Lawrence, ’54) – 5

Diomande seemingly struggled to get involved at Easter Road and picked up a booking before being taken off shortly after half time.

Danilo Pereira – 4

One big chance to win it late on which was well kept by Hibs ‘keeper Jordan Smith, which was his one standout involvement in the game.

Cyriel Dessers – 8

After his doublt in midweek, produced an excellent finish to open the scoring here and got through plenty of work leading the line.

Substitutes

Robin Propper (on for Balogun, ’10) – 6

Thrown on early after the injury to Balogun but held his own well enough.

Tom Lawrence (on for Dimonade, ’54) – 5

Like Diomande before him struggled to effect much change on the game.

Oscar Cortes (on for Raskin, ’81) – 5

Came on for the influential Raskin but didn’t make the same impression.

Bailey Rice (on for Cerny, ’82) – 5

The teenager continues to rack up the senior appearances in recent weeks.
