‘Nicolas Jackson has played his last Chelsea game’ – fans explode at ‘mad’ footage

Chelsea fans the world over want to see the back of Nicolas Jackson after his “ridiculous” red card against Newcastle United.

Jackson has previously been seen as a saviour-like figure in the eyes of Blues fans, albeit more due to Chelsea’s lack of an alternative in the number nine role than his performance and output in the final third.

Cole Palmer and the exit-linked Christopher Nkunku lead Jackson with 15 and 14 goals respectively to the Senegalese international’s 12 this season, but no other Chelsea player can lead the line quite like him.

Enzo Maresca will be on the hunt for more top-class options at centre-forward this summer, and the Blues’ need for an alternative to Jackson was made clear by his moment of madness against Newcastle.

Chelsea left with impossible task after Nicolas Jackson dismissal

Maresca’s side went into their clash with fellow Champions League chasers Newcastle in need of a victory to take control of the Premier League’s top five race, but got off to the worst possible start.

Sandro Tonali’s second-minute opener left Chelsea with a mountain to climb, and things went from bad to worse when Jackson aimed a blatant and clear elbow in the direction of Newcastle’s Sven Botman.

The striker was initially spared and only shown a yellow card, but VAR soon intervened and after a long deliberation, referee John Brooks changed his initial decision and upgraded Jackson’s card to a red.

Jackson’s 35th-minute dismissal left Chelsea down to 10 men for the next hour, and while the visitors did improve in the second half, Bruno Guimaraes’ late strike capped off a deserved victory for Newcastle.

‘Don’t let Jackson wear the shirt again’ – Chelsea fans explode

Chelsea fans have long since given Jackson’s limitations the benefit of the doubt thanks to Maresca’s lack of alternatives to the 23-year-old up front, but any semblance of patience has now been eroded.

Jackson’s imminent three-match suspension rules him out for the remainder of Chelsea’s Premier League campaign, and that could leave their bid to secure Champions League football in jeopardy.

Blues fans were unanimous in their frustrations after Jackson’s “ridiculous” challenge, and if Chelsea do miss out on the Champions League as a result of his suspension, many feel that should be “the last game he plays” for the west Londoners.
