Nicolas Jackson ‘is heading back to Chelsea’ before joining new club for ‘cut-price fee’

Chelsea could be set to face a big headache regarding on loan striker Nicolas Jackson after the latest update.

Jackson is on loan at Bayern Munich from Chelsea, with the deal including an obligation to buy if the forward plays 40 games this season.

The German giants would have to pay £56.2m for the Senegal international if the clause is triggered.

However, Jackson has only played 12 games for Bayern so far this season, and it looks unlikely that he will reach the 40-match mark.

Chelsea facing Nicolas Jackson issue

On Tuesday (18 November), Football Insider revealed that Jackson is set to remain at Bayern Munich until the end of the season, rather than returning to Chelsea in January.

However, Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – still believes that the striker will cause Enzo Maresca’s side a big headache.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that unless Jackson sparks into form, Bayern won’t want to keep him beyond the end of this campaign.

Wyness added that Chelsea will then be forced to offload the 24-year-old at a lower price than they had originally planned.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “It does look like a big issue. I’ve never been a big Nicholas Jackson fan. I did sort of predict that it wouldn’t go that well at Bayern and it’s proving to be the case, unless he sparks up in form soon.

“I think it would give Chelsea a real headache if he comes back and he’s failed in Germany. For me, he’s not the hot prospect that everybody was touting him to be. I think there are a lot of issues around his mentality.

“There’ll be ways that Chelsea can offload him, because they’ve got so many players in that stable, they’ll be able to do multi-player deals. So he’ll be offloaded in some way, but not at the price they had thought at one stage.”

Maignan was linked with a move to Chelsea during the most recent transfer window, but the deal ultimately fell through.

The 30-year-old’s contract with AC Milan expires at the end of the season, and there is still no indication that he will sign a new deal.

However, sources say that Chelsea will face competition from Juventus for Maignan and will have to move quickly to sign the goalkeeper.
