Nicolas Jackson reacts to Chelsea announcement after loan exit confirmed

Nicolas Jackson has reacted to a new announcement from a Chelsea player after a loan move away from the club was confirmed.

The Blues are competing in the Champions League again next season after finishing fourth in the Premier League, and they are set to be busy in the transfer market this summer as a result.

Enzo Maresca has looked to bolster his squad with a new goalkeeper in recent weeks, with Chelsea linked with a move for AC Milan stopper Mike Maignan, but a deal to take him to Stamford Bridge fell through after they refused to meet the Italian giants’ asking price for his services.

Chelsea are not short on keepers, though, with several on their books as it stands, but Djordje Petrovic has been mooted with a move to Milan after asking to be left out of Maresca’s squad for the Club World Cup, while Robert Sanchez could also leave the West London outfit.

Teddy Sharman-Lowe’s new deal and Bolton move

Young Chelsea shot-stopper Sharman-Lowe is currently representing England Under-21’s at the European Championships, but he has turned his focus to club matters in recent days after an impressive loan at Doncaster Rovers last season.

The 22-year-old has officially joined Bolton Wanderers on loan for the new campaign, after Football Insider revealed on 13 June that Sharman-Lowe was closing in on a move to the Toughsheet Community Stadium.

He took to Instagram to share his thoughts on the move, while also announcing his new contract at Stamford Bridge, saying: “Grateful to extend my time at Chelsea to 2028. So buzzing to be at Bolton for season, massive club with big ambitions! Can’t wait to get started.”

His message to Blues and Trotters supporters was reacted to by a number of his club and international teammates, with Jackson liking the post amid transfer interest from La Liga teams, while Lucas Bergstrom, Tyler Morton and now-Man City keeper Marcus Bettinelli all followed suit.

Chelsea should look to sign Mike Maignan at all costs this summer

Football Insider verdict

Sharman-Lowe was always unlikely to get a look in at Chelsea in the new season, with Maresca recently trying to bolster his already stacked goalkeeping department with yet another new signing.

Sanchez was his first-choice keeper throughout the most of last season, with Filip Jorgensen as the Spaniard’s back-up, but Chelsea’s pursuit of Maignan has plunged his future at the club beyond this summer into doubt.

The Blues’ pulled out of a deal for the French international earlier this month due to disagreements with Milan about the transfer fee for his services [Daily Mail], but they should look to try and find common ground with the Serie A side to sign him soon, as he is a top goalkeeper and a definite upgrade on Sanchez.

Mike Maignan’s 2024/25 statistics

Sanchez struggled throughout the last Chelsea campaign following a series of high-profile errors, and so it is no surprise that the Blues have been interested in a keeper like Maignan, who would undoubtedly become their number one if he was to join.

The 29-year-old has been a regular at the top-end of Serie A and in the Champions League for a number of years now, helping Milan to the league title in 2022, while he was named in the Euro 2024 Team of the Tournament for his impressive exploits with France last summer.

With that said, Chelsea will want to reach an agreement with the Italian side to sign him sooner rather than later, as Maresca looks to build a settled, reliable squad that is capable of staging a title challenge next season.
