Nicolas Raskin ‘tempted’ by Rangers move as Premier League giants join the race

Nicolas Raskin’s future has been a major concern at Rangers so far this season as a number of top European clubs are keeping an eye on his situation.

Raskin had a bust-up with Russell Martin earlier this season which saw him left out of multiple matchday squads and ramped up the speculation that he could move on.

Now, despite Rangers opting to sack Martin after their dismal start to the season, clubs are believed to be keeping a close eye on the midfielder’s situation.

Football Insider revealed in August that Rangers were braced for bids for Raskin in the closing stages of the summer window, although no formal offer arrived.

Despite that, links to the likes of Porto, Napoli and Premier League clubs including Leeds United led to suggestions his head had been turned.

Nicolas Raskin tempted by Tottenham interest

Football Insider revealed last month that Raskin is content to stay at Rangers beyond the January transfer window after returning to the starting XI at Ibrox.

However, there are concerns that interest from a number of top clubs across Europe could prove tempting for the Belgium international, with Tottenham now joining the race.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, interest from Premier League clubs has not come as a surprise but is likely to tempt him, although a move in the summer is more likely than in January.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “I’m sure he’d be tempted by a move to the Premier League. There’s no doubt about that.

“I think for Raskin right now, it’s a clean slate for him again under a new manager.

“He’s impressing for Belgium on the international stage as well. So it’s no surprise he’s attracting interest.

“There was interest in the summer on him, but Rangers managed to keep hold of him.

“There is Premier League interest in him, there’s interest from other European leagues as well.

“I think there’ll be a big summer ahead for Rangers and if Raskin doesn’t see any improvement maybe with Rangers, then the player himself could be tempted by a move away.”

Ally McCoist slammed Martin’s treatment of Raskin, warning that it could lead to his departure, but the situation remains unclear despite his dismissal.

Next Rangers manager to play key role in Raskin’s future at Ibrox

Raskin recently confessed he wants to be “loved” by a manager, hinting that the opposite had happened at Rangers given his frosty relationship with Martin.

Rangers’ search for a new manager is ongoing after Martin’s dismissal, despite the likes of Sean Dyche, Steven Gerrard and Danny Rohl having ruled themselves out of contention.

Football Insider revealed on 16 October that Rangers are advancing in talks to appoint Kevin Muscat, with the path having cleared for his appointment.

Football Insider exclusively revealed on 13 October that Rangers want to appoint their next manager quickly and will ideally have an agreement before the end of the week.

Their next appointment could prove crucial to Raskin’s future and his attitude towards leaving Rangers if the opportunity to move on mid-season emerges.
