Paul Robinson has heaped praise on Rangers boss Steven Gerrard as the club close in on the signing of Bournemouth’s Jack Simpson and Nnamdi Ofoborh.

The former Spurs and Leeds United number one, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said his former England teammate is “building for the future” to ensure that the Glasgow giants can enjoy sustained success.

Football Insider understands the Gers are close to reaching an agreement with Simpson, 24, on a deal that would see him move to Ibrox when his current deal at Bournemouth expires in June.

This site also revealed that Cherries midfielder Ofoborh, 21, has already agreed the terms of a pre-contract with the runaway Scottish Premiership leaders and an announcement could be made this week.

Rangers announced on Monday the signing of Scott Wright on a pre-contract from Aberdeen.

Simpson and Ofoborh have been bit-part players for the Championship side this season and neither featured against Derby County last week.

When asked by Football Insider for his thoughts on the prospective Rangers signings, Robinson said: “Stevie is building for the future.

“What he is going to achieve this season is amazing, he has done absolutely fantastic up there.

“He is not just planning for now, he is planning for the future. Signing players like the lads will put the club on a good footing.

“The work is going in to put Rangers on a sound footing long-term, he is putting the building blocks in place to make sure that this is not a one season wonder. The foundations are going to be there for this to carry on.”
