Noni Madueke sends message to Chelsea fans after Enzo Maresca confession

Chelsea winger Noni Madueke has taken to social media to celebrate the 2-1 Premier League over Brentford on Sunday (December 15) despite Enzo Maresca’s insistence they’re not in the title race.

The 22-year-old sent in a lovely cross for Marc Cucurella to open the scoring with a diving header just before half-time.

Nicolas Jackson then doubled their lead in the 80th minute before Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo made it tense in added time by getting one back for the visitors.

Chelsea’s win over Brentford takes them within two points of league leaders Liverpool, although Arne Slot’s side have a game in hand over the West Londoners.

Enzo Maresca remains adamant Chelsea aren’t in the title race, however, telling the press after the game: “No matter how many games we win, I think we are not ready to compete for the title.

“One of the reasons why is that the team that knows how to compete to win titles, they won’t concede goals we concede. A team that knows how to win titles, that is not a goal they know how to concede.

“Just two teams have conceded less than us. Defensively we’re not doing bad. We’d like to end with a clean sheet but there’s another team trying to score.”

The winger has established himself as a key player under Maresca, starting 14 of his 18 appearances across all competitions, scoring six goals, and providing three assists in 1160 minutes of action.

Maresca may have no interest in talking about the title race, but Madueke seems confident, taking to Instagram after the game and captioning his post: “Again and again and again.”

Chelsea will host Irish club Shamrock Rovers in their sixth Europa Conference League game of the season on Thursday (December 19) as they aim to keep their 100 per cent record intact.

Attention will then return to the Premier League with Maresca’s side traveling to Sean Dyche’s Everton on Sunday (December 22).
