Medical expert: Krul could be out for ‘six weeks’ after ‘speaking to specialists’ at Norwich

Norwich City shot-stopper Tim Krul could be out of action for as long as six weeks – but the good news is that he will not need surgery.

That is the view of injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis.

Krul missed the Canaries’ crucial 3-0 win over Watford last Friday (21 January), with understudy Angus Gunn taking his place between the sticks.

As quoted by club media last Thursday (21 January, Dean Smith confirmed the 33-year-old “went to see a consultant” regarding a shoulder injury.

Dinnery expanded on the specifics of the injury and estimated how long the Dutchman could be facing on the sidelines.

“It’s his AC joint,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“It’s where the clavicle and the collarbone joins the acromion. This came about through an awkward landing against Everton late on.

“It looks as though there was partial separation there. There’s certainly no indication that there is any need for surgery at this point.

“That is a good indication that he has spoken to specialists. They will determine what the next best steps are.

“But from what we know, we can probably assume we are looking at a grade two injury.

“When you have a laxity or separation, those joints aren’t as tight. So you may be looking at between four or six weeks in terms of recovery.

“If it was an outfield player, it would be slightly different.

“But when your arms and your hands are the tools of your trade, it’s an injury that really does have to be managed very carefully.”

Krul has kept three clean sheets in 19 league appearances this term.

No team in the top flight has shipped more goals than the Canaries’ 45.

In other news, Dinnery suggests Billy Gilmour could miss “six weeks” after Norwich City update.
