Medical expert: Andrew Omobamidele’s season may be over after new Norwich City reveal

Norwich City youngster Andrew Omobamidele’s season may be over even if new measures to correct his back problem are successful.

That is the view of injury expert Ben Dinnery, who runs the Premier Injuries site and has a background in medicine and data analysis.

Omobamidele, 19, has not featured for the Canaries since early December after suffering a stress fracture to his lower back.

Dean Smith has revealed that the centre-back has visited a specialist and is now wearing a protective corset, per club media last Monday (7 March).

But Dinnery claims that, even if the new treatment goes as planned, the Irishman may not return to action this season.

“It’s a corset to maintain posture,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“This problem goes all the way back to December. It was initially flagged as a stress fracture of the lower back.

“It needed two or three weeks rest. But we have had incremental updates from Dean Smith saying that he isn’t progressing as hoped.

“They are unhappy with the situation in terms of a lack of real progress. This corset is another option to try and accelerate that return to play.

“But we’re in the realms of asking how long is a piece of string.

“We’re looking at about two or three weeks in the corset then he will return to the specialist to be evaluated.

“Even if he comes out of the corset, there will need to be an integration period before he plays again. There are no guarantees he plays again this season.

Omobamidele featured in the matchday squad in all but one of Norwich’s 14 league games before his setback in December.

He is one of five stars currently sidelined through injury or illness at Carrow Road.
