Chris Sutton delivers damning Celtic verdict after draw v Motherwell

BT Sport pundit Chris Sutton has slaughtered Celtic for their performance in the goalless draw with Motherwell at Fir Park on Sunday.

The Hoops toiled during the game and failed to break down a Motherwell side who played with ten men for 50 minutes following the first-half dismissal of Cedric Kipre.

Sutton took to his personal Twitter account to slam the performance, as he feels that the Bhoys are a pale comparison of the side which won the domestic treble last season.

“Gutsy performance from Motherwell not lucky…. Celtic not anywhere near the level of last season,” the former Hoops striker said.

The Bhoys failed to create many chances against the ten men, the closest efforts a Patrick Roberts effort which hit the bar and a late Scott Sinclair effort which was blocked.

Despite the dropped points, the Hoops remain 10 points clear with a game in hand at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.

Football Insider verdict

It is hard to dispute anything Sutton has to say. The Hoops have been very poor in comparison to last season, where they swept all before them. Interestingly enough, the Bhoys are on course to win a second consecutive domestic treble this season, as they are set to play Rangers in the Scottish Cup semi-final in April. However, the level of performance has been nowhere near the standards of last season, as the Hoops seem content to do the bare minimum which is set to clinch another league title. With so little of the season left to run, it seems unlikely that the performances will improve drastically between now and the end of the season.
