Nottingham Forest are making ‘big mistake’ over Jorgen Strand Larsen deal

Nottingham Forest chief Edu should be challenged over why the club would want to sign Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who is unconvinced by Strand Larsen’s goalscoring ability.

Edu, who is Global Head of Football at Nottingham Forest, has come under pressure this season due to their on-pitch struggles in the Premier League.

Nottingham Forest have been linked with a move for Strand Larsen, who has scored just once in the Premier League this season, for a Wolves side who are bottom of the table.

Nottingham Forest ‘well-placed’ to agree Jorgen Strand Larsen deal

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Nottingham Forest already have enough quality to stay in the Premier League.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness does not understand the interest in Strand Larsen.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Now, Edu, of course, is the guy in charge over there. I don’t know why he would be looking at Strand Larsen. As I say, I’ve got real question marks about what he can do.

“And I know he’s in the Wolves team, and they’re not playing well, but still you’d expect better flashes than what I’ve seen from him and better discipline as well. So Forest, I think all they’re thinking about right now is the relegation squad. Have we got enough to stay up? And I think they probably have.

“And I don’t think Strand Larsen is the answer at £40m to come in. They’re well-placed compared to other clubs to get him in if they wanted to. I think that Wolves may have to accept less money for him and that may happen in the summer as well, and I’m going to try and keep him and just see it through and give him a chance to showcase himself better for the rest of the season.”

Nottingham Forest set for departure

The loan signing of Arsenal left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko last summer has also proven to be a poor piece of recruitment from Nottingham Forest.

Zinchenko is set to leave Nottingham Forest and return to Arsenal in January ahead of a second loan move of the season.

Ajax have emerged as front-runners for the 29-year-old, who has only made 10 appearances for the Tricky Trees.
