Nottingham Forest are now ‘expecting’ points deduction that will be ‘disastrous’
Nottingham Forest are now “expecting” a six-point deduction for their breach of the Premier League’s financial rules.
Football Insider has learned that a points deduction for Nuno Espirito Santo’s team will happen and Forest are braced for their punishment.
Senior sources have told us that a points deduction of around five to six points is now likely for the embattled club.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the ex-Tottenham shot-stopper Paul Robinson claimed that a points penalty would be “disastrous” for Forest’s hopes of staying in the top flight.
Nottingham Forest were charged in January with breaching the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) and will discover their fate later this season.
As reported by The Times last month, Forest have “admitted” they were in breach of the regulations – having exceeded their allowable losses of £61million over three years up to the 2022-23 campaign.
Six-point deduction would be ‘disastrous’ for Nottingham Forest survival bid, says Robinson
Everton were deducted 10 points for a similar breach of PSR rules – but saw that penalty reduced to six after appeal.
Robinson told Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast: “They’re expecting six, aren’t they?
“That’s the precedent which has been set now.
“We all talked about 10 points for Everton being harsh, and a product of the independent regulator hanging over the Premier League.
“All of a sudden, the Premier League growled at Everton and took 10 points off them.
“Six has been decided to be fair now, and that’s the precedent that has been set.
“You would expect that both Forest and Everton will be hit with a six-point deduction.
“I think that would be disastrous for Nottingham Forest.

“They were unlucky to lose against Man United, but defensively they are far too porous.
“For me, Burnley and Sheffield United are done. It’s going to be between Everton, Forest and Luton.”
