Warburton: This is how many more players I want Nottingham Forest to sign this summer
By Danny Wright
Nottingham Forest manager Mark Warburton has revealed that he was to sign another four players before the transfer window slams shut.
The 54-year-old has already added lethal goal scorer Jason Cummings to his ranks ahead of the start of the 2017/18 Championship campaign – but he is adamant that there is still more to come.
Warburton has also highlighted the key role that director of football Frank MacParland has played in trying to help the Reds’ recruitment achieve their targets this summer.
“A lot of work has gone on and sometimes you don’t see the fruits of the labour too early. The work going on behind the scenes has been tireless by Frank McParland and his team; Frank has been in every single day during the summer and we have had great support from the new owners,” said Warburton to Nottingham Forest’s official club website.
“These deals take time, they can be complicated and I hope we can have another four or so players coming in but we will see how things progress.”
Cummings, 21, became Warburton’s first signing at the City Ground when he put pen to paper on a three-year deal in mid-June.
The Reds’ supporters were understandably delighted with the acquisition of a striker who managed to smashed 19 goals in 31 Scottish Championship matches last season as Hibernian won the title with ease.
Forest fans will also be hoping that new owner Evangelos Marinakis has a big influence on this summers’ business, as he looks to take the East Midlands giants back towards the top end of the Championship table.
Warburton’s side was almost relegated to the third tier last season, but a final day win against Ipswich saw them earn survival by goal difference – despite never spending a single day in the bottom three of the table.
