Nottingham Forest make Ange Postecoglou sack ‘call’ as new plan revealed

Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis looks to have made a decision on Ange Postecoglou’s immediate future as manager to bring a halt to speculation.

Postecoglou was appointed as Nottingham Forest‘s new manager last month following Nuno Espirito Santo’s controversial sacking, but things have not gone to plan in the East Midlands for the ex-Tottenham boss so far.

The Reds are yet to win a game since he was hired, with five losses and two draws in his opening seven games in charge, and doubts have started to creep in over whether he is the right man to lead them forward.

Forest fans called for Postecoglou to be “sacked in the morning” during their 3-2 loss to Midtjylland in the Europa League last Thursday (2 October), and things went from bad to worse with a defeat against Newcastle before the international break.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (7 October) that numerous Nottingham Forest players have become disillusioned with the current state of the club, and Evangelos Marinakis now looks to have made a big call on the future of his under-fire boss.

Postecoglou unlikely to be sacked over the international break

A new report from the Daily Mail (8 October) states that Postecoglou’s chances of staying in place for their next game against Chelsea “appear to be improving” as Marinakis leans towards sticking with him for now.

There is still believed to be potential for the club’s view to change over the next 10 days, but it is understood that the Forest owner is unlikely to make a change during the international break.

Postecoglou is known to be aware that results must improve, however with a difficult run of fixtures ahead as they face Chelsea, Porto and Bournemouth in their next three games, and so a sacking could be on the horizon if they fail to win any of those matches.

Postecoglou remains confident that he can be a success at Forest

Postecoglou experienced similar doubters during his time as Tottenham boss, but he managed to end their trophy drought with a Europa League triumph and proved many wrong.

He was still sacked by Spurs after that, though, and has not got any credit in the bank in the East Midlands as yet with no wins or real signs of improvement from Nuno’s team since he was appointed.

Following their defeat to Newcastle, the Australian boss insisted that he was the right man for the job, saying: “If people want to make an assessment on me after three and a half weeks, there is nothing I can do about that. At the same time, there is nothing wrong with things being tough – it’s OK!

“If people outside don’t think I’m the right person – or even internally don’t think that – it makes no difference to me. I took this role on knowing it would be a massive challenge in terms of what we’re trying to do and changing the direction of the club.

“Nothing I have seen in the last three and a half weeks has changed my view on that. I love the challenge of taking this club to where it needs to be. I’m very confident we’ll get there.”

Postecoglou may well be confident, but things very clearly must improve as soon as possible if he is to remain in charge at the City Ground.

Marinakis has handed him a clear ultimatum with this latest stay of execution, with a win against Chelsea on 18 October likely needed to save his job.
