Nottingham Forest news: Wyness ‘sure’ about another points deduction after fall-out

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has suggested Nottingham Forest will receive a fine for their VAR outburst and subsequent fall-out – instead of another points deduction.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted the Midlands club were wrong to threaten legal action after their 2-0 away loss at Everton last week (21 April).

The Premier League have launched a probe into the bitter row between Forest and refereeing chiefs.

Forest released a statement on X just minutes after full-time at Goodison Park, claiming they had “warned” the PGMOL that VAR official Stuart Atwell “is a Luton fan” and claimed they are “considering options” going forward.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have already been deducted four points this season for a breach of the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Nottingham Forest ‘were wrong’ to threaten legal action as fine incoming, says Wyness

Wyness insisted Forest are likely to land another punishment – but it will be a “financial penalty”.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I’m sure there will be nothing to do with points as a punishment for this.

“It’ll probably be a fine for Forest. The club may receive some financial penalty – but I don’t think it will be any more than that.

“I hate to go on about Richard Masters, the Premier League CEO. But he talked about the unintended consequences of the whole PSR situation.

“It seems now that every club’s first instinct is to look at their legal options.

“That is the slippery slope I’ve been warning about this whole time. Clubs have got to see legal options as the last resort, not the first resort.

“It’s a very dangerous trend.

“Forest were wrong to say they were considering options – that means legal remedies.”
