Nottingham Forest points deduction: Keith Wyness reveals likely appeal outcome

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness believes Nottingham Forest’s four-point deduction will not be changed.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed that Forest’s punishment will remain the same despite their appeal.

The Nottingham outfit were docked four points following a breach of the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSRs).

The decision is currently under appeal, but Wyness believes the appeal at the City Ground will not be successful.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side currently occupy 17th place in the Premier League table, a point above the relegation zone.

Their relegation rivals Everton have been docked eight points for similar breaches this season, with their second punishment of two points currently under appeal after their first punishment of 10 points was reduced to six upon appeal.

“I think it is going to stay as it is,” he told the Inside Track podcast. “I think it is going to be a bit of a stalemate, the points will stay.

“I don’t see their arguments being strong enough to get either one point back or anything else. But again it will open up another 50-page situation where there will be more different loopholes or different legal points, disagreeing with previous commissions.

“So all it will do is start to build this cottage industry now of lawyers who can appeal, and are now getting more and more precedence to argue.”
