Nottingham Forest set to return for Benjamin Nygren as Celtic danger man stars in key win vs Motherwell
Nottingham Forest could be set to make a return for Celtic midfielder Benjamin Nygren this summer, after failing with several bids in January.
The Tricky Trees sent bids worth up to £25million for the Swede, who has enjoyed a brilliant first season since arriving in Glasgow last summer.
The 24-year-old has scored 21 goals across all competitions and netted his most crucial one on Wednesday as Celtic’s title challenge survived a scare at Motherwell in a game that finished 3-2.
Nygren cost the Hoops just £1.7m when he arrived from Danish side FC Nordsjaelland last summer, and they will hope to make a significant profit.
Nottingham Forest transfer chiefs may well have been watching on Wednesday night, with the midfielder’s goal ultimately a footnote in a chaotic game.

Football Insider exclusively revealed in April that Nygren wants a move to the Premier League this summer, with Nottingham Forest among several clubs likely monitoring his progress.
Should the Bhoys go on to win the Scottish Premiership title this season, much of their thanks will go to the midfielder.

Nyrgen has so often been the difference between three points and one for Celtic this season, always managing to pop up with huge goals.
Wednesday’s clash was no different. Martin O’Neill’s side had gone 1-0 down to Elliot Watt’s strike and were due to lose the title to Hearts, as it stood.
But Daizen Maeda found the equaliser, and in the second half, Nygren picked up the ball from 25 yards and unleashed a thunderous strike that ripped past Calum Ward and into the top corner.
Liam Gordon equalised for Motherwell and placed Hearts back in the driving seat for the title late on, but controversy engulfed Fir Park when Celtic were awarded a 99th-minute penalty by VAR for an apparent handball.
Kelechi Iheanacho made no mistake from the spot, and Nygren and his team will now have the opportunity to beat Hearts at Parkhead for the title on Saturday.
Nygren gives latest on his Celtic future
Celtic ultimately expect Nygren to eventually move on, but they may well hope to get another season out of the 24-year-old.
“To be honest, it’s not a question that I think of,” he said this week. “My focus is at Celtic now and that’s it.”
There are some suspicions that transfer chiefs at Parkhead may see the benefit in cashing in on the Sweden international while his stock is high, however.
Nygren is likely to attract close to the £25m bid he received from Nottingham Forest in January, but it will take a strong season to retain that fee next summer.
