Nottingham Forest star Joe Worrall undergoing Besiktas medical after deal agreed – Sources

Nottingham Forest captain Joe Worrall is in Turkey for a medical with Besiktas, sources have told Football Insider.

It is believed the 27-year-old has agreed to join the Istanbul-based club on a loan deal until the end of the 2023-24 campaign.

Worrall was in attendance as Besiktas recorded a 2-0 win over Trabzonspor on Sunday (4 February).

The centre-back was a top target for Premier League strugglers Sheffield United in the January transfer window but a deal failed to materialise.

Football Insider revealed last Friday (2 February) that Worrall was left “unhappy” and “furious” after missing out on a late move to the Blades – after Forest initially made him unavailable to loan.

Besiktas have now swooped in to seal a temporary move for the defender before the Turkish transfer window shuts this Friday (9 February).

Forest academy product Worrall has made just nine appearances totalling 544 minutes of action across all competitions this season.

He penned a new contract at the City Ground just last September, keeping him at the club until June 2026.

The ex-Rangers loanee started the opening five Premier League games of the 2023-24 campaign but has not made a league start since 18 September.

Nottingham Forest also have the likes of Murillo, Moussa Niakhate and Andrew Omobamidele to call on at centre-back.

Burnley

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side sit 16th in the Premier League and are two points above the relegation zone after drawing 1-1 against Bournemouth on Sunday (4 February).

Besiktas sit third in the Turkish top-flight and have been eliminated from European competition.
