Nottingham Forest ‘well placed’ to complete Wolves signing

Nottingham Forest should wait out until the summer transfer window in their pursuit of a new striker.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, amid Nottingham Forest’s interest in Wolves striker Jorgen Strand Larsen.

Wolves have placed a £40million price tag on Strand Larsen, who only joined the club permanently from Celta Vigo last summer.

The 25-year-old has struggled for form this season, netting just once in the Premier League with Wolves bottom of the table.

Jorgen Strand Larsen deal questioned by expert

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – does not fear for Nottingham Forest, who currently sit 17th in the Premier League table and are seven points above the relegation zone.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks a “better selection” of strikers would become available in the summer.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Well, I’m still confused about this clamour for Strand Larsen.

“I mean, yes, he scored a hat-trick against Shrewsbury in the Cup, but before that he’s done basically nothing, and he’s shown some really bad temperamental signs as well. And yet they still talk about £40m, and it seems that, you know, Forest are coming in.

“Forest could be well-placed, but they’ll have Chris Wood coming back from injury again. And so if they were able to get through the end of the season with a Chris Wood fit, et cetera. They may just be able to get through.

“I don’t think they’re going to be that involved in the relegation battle. I think Sean Dyche will see them through that. And so you’d wonder whether Strand Larsen is the right choice for something like a 30, 40 million pound deal for Forest right now, where they might have a better selection.”

Nottingham Forest could face City Ground blow

Relegation to the Championship could hurt Nottingham Forest in their plans to redevelop the City Ground.

The club have been warned of the financial hits they would have to take on relegation, which could impact the financing of the project.

Work on expanding the City Ground to eventually become a 50,000-seater capacity stadium could commence in the summer, subject to approval.
