Arnaud Kalimuendo: What does the future hold for Nottingham Forest striker?

Nottingham Forest supporters are desperate for Arnaud Kalimuendo to be reintegrated into the squad for the 2026-27 season.

During Sean Dyche's very short reign at the City Ground, the former Rennes man was continuously left out, forcing him to seek minutes on loan at Eintracht Frankfurt.

With six goals and one assist in 19 games, the 24-year-old made quite the impression, but not enough for the Bundesliga club to trigger the buy option in his deal.

Now, upon his return to England, Kalimuendo has netted in back-to-back pre-season friendlies as a substitute against Notts County and Blackburn Rovers.

The first was a distinctive header, diverting home a Dilane Bakwa cross, and the second was an incredibly simple finish from just inside the penalty area.

Oliver Glasner's reign has gotten off to a great start, but the early games raise huge questions about the future of Kalimuendo.

Despite not triggering the buy clause in his contract, it cannot be ruled out that Frankfurt could return to the table to complete a deal this summer.

Beyond the Bundesliga club, who are hoping to bag a bargain ahead of the 2026-27 campaign, very few links have emerged so far.

Kalimuendo's buy clause was understood to be worth £23million, but Forest would be losing money on that, having signed him for £26m.

Frankfurt felt that this price tag was too expensive, but other clubs around Europe may feel it justified to splash the cash on the Frenchman.

Right now, Glasner appears to have found a good use for the centre-forward, also capable of playing on the wing, but it is only pre-season after all.

Having only been hired a matter of weeks ago, the former Crystal Palace boss is rushing to learn everything about his squad.

Glasner is clearly not afraid to make changes, with both Xaver Schlager and Ousmane Diomande set to arrive, which could force others out this summer.

However, on Kalimuendo, he has said: "“Every player who’s here gets the chance to show up.And so far everybody’s very ambitious and hardworking in training.

"That’s why Kali deserves to play and show what he’s capable of," and after the win over Notts County, Glasner described his display as "fantastic".

All the current signs point towards the player staying at the City Ground for the foreseeable future, but anything can happen between now and the end of the transfer window.
