Dan Ndoye: Swiss media want more after Nottingham Forest star's 'redemption' vs Algeria
Nottingham Forest supporters will feel a sense of hope over the future of Dan Ndoye at the City Ground this summer.
The 25-year-old has failed to make the expected impact since making the £34million switch to the Premier League last summer, with just two goals and one assist to his name.
His good performances have come in small bursts for the Reds. In fact, since the 2025-26 season ended, Ndoye has more goal for Switzerland.
He netted against both Jordan and Australia in pre-2026 World Cup friendlies, and added yet another to his record against Algeria on Friday, 3 July.
It came just seconds into the second half after Breel Embolo opened the scoring after 10 minutes, earning some rave reviews away from the City Ground.
With Forest now parting ways with Vitor Pereira, his future could take yet another twist back in England, and he will hope that it's a positive one.
Dan Ndoye nets first goal of 2026 World Cup
Ndoye finally has his first goal of the tournament, four games later, but it certainly should have been more, and the Swiss media have noted that.
"What a redemption. His goal was to make it 2-0 just 47 seconds after the break. In the opening match against Qatar, he missed three top chances," Watson wrote.
"Against Bosnia-Herzegovina (4-1) he could have scored twice, should have scored. Of course, it's nothing new that Dan Ndoye has deficits in finishing.
"At the World Cup, the old weaknesses reappeared," and if Forest are to continue believing in their £34m signing, he needs to repeat these performances.
The overall reaction has been immensely positive, but there is a hint of disappointment about the winger's record in front of goal.
What did the stats say about Ndoye's display?
Despite the goal, some of the player's underlying stats would suggest that the 25-year-old can offer so much more against Colombia or Ghana in the next round.
As FotMob's Player of the Match, he created one chance, had one shot on target, completed 50 per cent of his attempted dribbles, and made three tackles.
He also made three recoveries and won 57 per cent of his ground duels, as well as winning three fouls, but being dribbled past three times.
There's always room for improvement, but if Oliver Glasner is to take over at the City Ground, the new manager will have much higher expectations.
