Elliot Anderson to play key role in Nottingham Forest blocking Morgan Gibbs-White transfer
Elliot Anderson's big-money sale to Man City means Nottingham Forest do not need to cash in on Morgan Gibbs-White anytime soon, sources have told Football Insider.
Forest were resigned to losing Anderson in the summer transfer window as several top clubs eyed his services.
He ultimately left the City Ground to join Man City for a club-record £116million fee in July after the World Cup.
Forest have several key assets still within their ranks looking to shine under Oliver Glasner, not least Gibbs-White, who has also attracted high-profile interest over the last 12 months.
As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, Forest are in a strong financial position after Anderson's exit and so are confident of keeping hold of Gibbs-White amid continued interest in his services.
Tottenham, Man United and Arsenal are all believed to admire the 26-year-old, who has started the new campaign in strong form.
Morgan Gibbs-White exit unlikely after Elliot Anderson sale
Sources exclusively revealed to Football Insider last month that United had shortlisted Gibbs-White amid uncertainty over Bruno Fernandes' future at the club.
Gibbs-White also attracted interest from Bayern Munich and Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal in the summer, but his Reds contract does not expire until 2028, and so they are demanding a lofty fee for his services.
The playmaker remains central to Glasner's plans for the coming seasons, and they have no plans to let him leave in any transfer windows in the near future.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "Tottenham's interest still remains in Gibbs-White after they tried to sign him in 2025, but Nottingham Forest are in a strong position now. There's no real need to sell any players.
"They are quite financially stable, having sold Elliot Anderson to Manchester City in the summer, so that will just strengthen their determination to retain such a key player as Gibbs-White. Forest will be looking to keep hold of him long-term as they bat off interest from other clubs as well."
Why is Gibbs-White not in the latest England squad?
Despite being the Premier League's top scorer in the calendar year of 2026, Gibbs-White has failed to make another England squad for the upcoming international break.
Many fans and pundits believed he should have gone to the World Cup, but he missed out in the summer and remains out of Thomas Tuchel's plans for the time being.
Tuchel explained his decision to snub the Forest star to reporters on Friday, saying: “It makes no sense to nominate three, four, five, number 10s. It just does not help anyone.
“We can see the form that Morgan is in and he ended the season very, very strongly and was the key player for Forest to not be relegated. We can see him stepping up now.”
