UEFA must act sharply and punish Fenerbahce after away fans destroyed parts of the City Ground against Nottingham Forest.

That is according to former PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA referee, Keith Hackett, who exclusively told Football Insider that Fenerbahce fans should face a three-match ban after the game on Thursday, 26 February.

Fenerbahce supporters set the City Ground alight with their flares and chants, with the genuine belief that their team could overturn the three-goal deficit following the round of 32 first leg.

Despite two goals from Kerem Akturkoglu, Callum Hudson-Odoi's second-half strike put the game completely out of sight, with Forest advancing through to the next stage under Vitor Pereira.

New images have now surfaced of the state of the away end, with chairs smashed to pieces and ripped out of the ground, and UEFA are now being urged to take immediate action due to the behaviour.

Keith Hackett calls for UEFA ban after Fenerbahce scenes

The Old Firm rivals, Celtic and Rangers, are far from strangers when it comes to punishments in Europe, and the same could now happen after Forest's clash against Fenerbahce in the Europa League.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former referee said: "Nottingham Forest should determine the cost of the replacement of these seats and any loss of revenue while they are not in use.

"On top of that, they should ban Fenerbahce fans from attending the next three UEFA away games involving this club and a fine of €250,000 (£218,600)."

The away fans also sneaked pyrotechnics into the ground, which is likely to come with its own punishment, but the damaged seats are an entirely different story.

Who could Nottingham Forest face next in the Europa League?

After beating Fenerbahce 4-2 on aggregate, the Reds will face either Real Betis or Midtjylland in the round of 16, two teams that Forest have already gone head-to-head with this season.

Under Ange Postecoglou, the Premier League side drew 2-2 with Betis, thanks to an Igor Jesus brace, while the Australian was not so successful against the Danish side.

Forest lost 3-2 to Midtjylland, despite a 93rd-minute penalty from Chris Wood, which spelt the beginning of the end for the former Tottenham manager at the City Ground.

Should they get through the next round, it could be VfB Stuttgart, FC Porto or Braga.
