Nottingham Forest 'accelerate' plans to back Oliver Glasner after £50m agreement

Nottingham Forest are accelerating plans to strengthen their squad in the closing stages of the window after landing Liam Delap.

The former Chelsea striker made the switch to the City Ground after an agreement worth £50million, but is not expected to be the only addition in the coming days.

Oliver Glasner has been keen to bolster his squad throughout the summer window, and despite a slow start, plans are in place for a busy end to the window.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Glasner has identified key areas of his squad which will be invested in before the window closes.

Nottingham Forest have completed five permanent signings so far, with Delap and Ousmane Diomande the most high-profile as part of their ambitious plans for the season.

With just days remaining until the 1 September deadline, Glasner hopes to make more key additions, particularly after what has been a slow start to his tenure.

Brown told Football Insider on 17 August that Glasner was frustrated by Nottingham Forest's lack of activity in the summer market, having been promised he would be backed.

However, the big-money signing of Delap has set the wheels in motion for a busy end to the window, and Forest are expected to spend more before the deadline.

After what has been a slow start to the new season, Forest are hopeful of turning their early fortunes around, and strengthening their squad could be key.

"Nottingham Forest believe they still need to add to their squad," Brown told Football Insider.

"When you look at how they performed last season, only so much of that can be blamed on the managers they had, then you have to start looking at the players and their performances.

"Going into the new season with largely the same group of players, they're at risk of having the same problems, even if the new manager is making changes.

"So Glasner will want to bring new players in to make the squad his own, and there are a number of position where he knows he wants to strengthen.

"I expect it will be a busy end to the window for Forest, because they know there is still work to do and the manager is pushing for it."

Glasner is likely to be key to any signings Nottingham Forest make in the closing stages of the transfer window, as he eyes improvements to his squad in multiple key areas.

Given the success he enjoyed at Crystal Palace, the Tricky Trees are hopeful of reaching their own ambitious goals, and feel backing the manager will be key.

As a result, Football Insider revealed on 23 August that Nottingham Forest could make a move to sign Daniel Munoz from Crystal Palace before the window closes.

The 30-year-old was a revelation under Glasner at Selhurst Park, and played a crucial role in his side winning the FA Cup, Community Shield and Conference League.

A fee of around £25million is expected to be enough to prise Munoz away from Selhurst Park this summer, and that fee is seen as affordable by the interested clubs.
