Nottingham Forest’s Gibbs-White sends heartwarming response to Moussa Niakhate

Morgan Gibbs-White shared a beautiful moment with former Nottingham Forest teammate Moussa Niakhate at the City Ground.

The latter signed for Lyon last summer, going on to make 42 total appearances for the Ligue 1 side, becoming an extremely important asset away from the Premier League.

Gibbs-White, who Chelsea are now interested in, Mick Brown has told Football Insider, was given the final 30 minutes to make an impact during the 3-1 friendly defeat to Senegal on Tuesday, 10 June.

Despite Harry Kane scoring the opener in Thomas Tuchel’s fourth game in charge, goals from Ismaila Sarr, Habib Diarra, and Cheikh Sabaly handed the Three Lions their first-ever defeat to an African team.

The Forest playmaker had a gilt-edged chance to tie up the game before Senegal’s late third goal, but it was not to be for the 25-year-old, who embraced his former teammate on the pitch at full-time.

Sharing an image of the two players together on Instagram, Niakhate wrote: “Morgan Gibbs-White, a pleasure to see you again, bro,” to which his former teammate replied: “And you, brother”.

Nuno Espirito Santo faces tough summer transfer window at the City Ground

Football Insider verdict

Gibbs-White is not the only player attracting interest this summer, with Arsenal and Man City also named in the race for his signature, and his future is not the only one up in the air.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s future at Forest remains uncertain after clashing with Evangelos Marinakis, and the Portuguese figure departing ahead of next season would be a tremendous blow for the Reds.

Despite only qualifying for the Europa Conference League, Forest achieved much more than many expected throughout the season, even reaching the semi-finals of the FA Cup.

The Reds’ incredible form across all competitions has raised eyebrows in Europe, with Anthony Elanga now a top target for Newcastle United, Football Insider understands, after missing out on Bryan Mbeumo.

Bagging six goals and 12 assists in all competitions, the Sweden international experienced his best campaign to date, relighting any potential rumours about a move to St James’ Park.

While news surrounding Ola Aina and Murillo has died down, Espirito Santo could head into the new season with a depleted squad, so Marinakis must show him plenty of backing in the transfer market.
