Nuno Espirito Santo under new sack threat at Nottingham Forest – ex-CEO

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Nuno Espirito Santo is not at Nottingham Forest for a “two or three-year project”.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested chairman Evangelos Marinakis could sack the 50-year-old if Forest are involved in a relegation fight.

Espirito Santo was appointed at the City Ground in December 2023 following the sacking of Steve Cooper with the club sitting 17th in the table.

Cooper had managed just one win from his last 13 Premier League games at the club, but Forest eventually managed to pull six points clear of the drop zone under Espirito Santo.

That is despite the club being docked four points for a breach of Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Espirito Santo faces sack threat from ‘demanding’ Nottingham Forest owner Marinakis, says Wyness

Espirito Santo has already been backed with the signings of Elliot Anderson and Carlos Miguel this summer, with both players expected to be fixtures in the first team.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “Marinakis doesn’t suffer fools gladly.

“He wants success, and he wants it quickly.

“He’ll be judged this season, certainly. If it’s not a relegation battle, then Marinakis will let him stay on and try and build again.

“But it’s season-by-season. He’s a very demanding owner but he gives you all the resources you’re after – so it’s fair.

“Nuno will know that. He won’t be thinking he’s got a two or three-year project, he’s living season-by-season.

“Sometimes, even week-by-week. That’s the drama of the Premier League and why we all love it so much.”
