Odds slashed: Two-time Premiership winning manager installed favourite to be Rangers boss

By Harvey Byrne

Alex McLeish has been installed as the favourite to become manager of Rangers once more, according to the latest bookmakers’ odds.

Sky Bet have slashed the 58-year-old’s odds to 4/9 after having him priced at 2/1 to take the job just hours earlier on Sunday.

Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes was priced as the favourite then at 8/13, but his price has drifted to 4/1.

Billy Davies (5/1) and Frank de Boer (14/1) trail closely behind the two front runners with their past history with Rangers during their playing days.

However, Glasgow-born McLeish also boasts some fine history with the Ibrox giants after he was manager of the famous side for five years between 2001 and 2006.

The Scotsman was in charge for 235 matches for the club, winning 155 of them alongside 44 draws and 36 defeats.

He also brought home two Premiership trophies with the club in 2003 and 2005 alongside two Scottish Cup and three Scottish League Cups.

McLeish also happened to be in the Sky Sports studio for Sunday’s 2-1 victory over Greenock Morton and he was very diplomatic with his answer when asked about the job.

The 58-year-old has been without a job since losing his role in May 2016 at Egyptian Premier League side Zamalek, but Rangers fans would surely welcome his return if he did take over the reigns from Mark Warburton.
