Oliver Glasner ‘unlikely to want to stay’ at Crystal Palace after confession

Crystal Palace have enjoyed a strong start to the season so far as they continue plans to build on their FA Cup and Community Shield success.

The Eagles’ 2-1 defeat to Everton last time out put an end to a 19-game unbeaten run, as they continue to impress with their performances in the Premier League.

However, there have been underlying doubts about the long-term future of Oliver Glasner, who now has less than a year remaining on his contract at Selhurst Park.

Palace chairman Steve Parish confirmed that early stages of contract talks have taken place, but explained their visions need to be aligned to reach an agreement. [talkSPORT]

This comes after Football Insider revealed on 30 September that Crystal Palace must match Glasner’s ambitions if they want him to agree a new contract.

Crystal Palace told what they must do to keep Oliver Glasner

Football Insider revealed last month that Palace will do everything in their power to keep Glasner at Selhurst Park despite reports of tension behind the scenes.

However, the Eagles must show Glasner that they are willing to do everything in their power to keep their best players while also adding to and improving his squad.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that he is concerned about the wording of Parish’s contract talks reveal.

We all know Palace want to keep Glasner,” he told Football Insider.

“The way the chairman phrased it, ‘Our positions have to be aligned’, I read into it that the manager is demanding things the club haven’t necessarily been doing.

“He wants to keep his best players and wants the board to supplement that by adding more depth and more quality in the transfer market.

“It’s testing the Palace hierarchy, weighing up their ambitions and seeing whether they’re prepared to give him what he needs to continue on this ride.

“Quite often, in my experience, owners and chairmen can be too focused on wanting to make a profit and prioritising finances over the ambitions of the club.

“If that’s the case here, then it’s unlikely the manager is going to want to stay, because they won’t be able to keep up with the ambitions and progress he wants to make.

“If he then gets the opportunity to move to a club who could match his aspirations, then they couldn’t blame him if they weren’t willing to do it.

“But ultimately it’s up to Palace, it’s a test of their ambitions, and if they want to keep Glasner they have to give him what he wants and that’s backing in the transfer market.”

However, Football Insider revealed on 17 August that Glasner has grown frustrated at Crystal Palace as a result of a lack of direction and ambition in the transfer market

Glasner has options if Crystal Palace contract talks collapse

Football Insider revealed on 19 September that Man United view Glasner as an option to replace Ruben Amorim should they decide to pull the trigger on his position.

Meanwhile, Glasner is believed to be targeting the Bayern Munich job, despite the boss having since questioned the origin of those reports.

Glasner was on the German giants’ list of options before Vincent Kompany’s arrival, while Man United continue to consider options in case Ruben Amorim is sacked.

Brown told Football Insider on 25 September that Crystal Palace are making plans to keep Glasner and hope they can extend his stay in South London.

As a result, all eyes are on Parish and the Palace hierarchy after a frustrating summer window as they attempt to keep the manager on side.
