Oliver Skipp tipped new role after ‘brilliant’ Tottenham update – expert
Tottenham will build their side around Oliver Skipp for the next decade after he signed a new deal with the club.
That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.
On Wednesday (20 April), it was announced Skipp, 21, has signed a new deal, keeping him at Tottenham until 2027.
The midfielder has been at Spurs since he was five years old with 2025 set to mark 20 years with the club.
He has made 28 appearances this season but has been sidelined for two months through injury.
When asked for his reaction to the news, Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild, “absolutely delighted, it’s a fitting reward for his progress.
“I want us to build our side around him for the next decade. He has a big few months ahead of him.
“I can see him breaking into the England squad. I think he can replace someone like Kalvin Phillips or Jordan Henderson.
“He is a future captain of Tottenham, he counts as homegrown and club trained so there were so many reasons to get this done.
“I have seen more reports that are claiming he’s on £50,000-per-week now, rather than the £80,000 quoted by the Evening Standard last week.
“That makes more sense to me, it’s much less of a jump. But everything about this is brilliant for Spurs.”

Skipp spent last season on loan at Norwich and helped Daniel Farke’s side win the Championship at a canter.
He has made 51 senior appearances for Spurs.
