‘Ollie Watkins finished at Aston Villa’ as fans explode at what he did vs Wolves: ‘He makes me sick’

Ollie Watkins saw his goalless run extend once again as Aston Villa were beaten 2-0 away at Wolves on Friday night.

Unai Emery’s star man has now gone six games without a goal in all competitions, and his struggles in front of goal were evident once again in the Black Country, as his team failed to find the back of the net against the Premier League’s bottom club.

Joao Gomes drilled home the opener for the hosts via the underside of the crossbar in the 61st minute, before Rodrigo Gomes turned home in added time to condemn Villa to defeat, as their recent poor form continued.

The second city outfit could see the gap between them and fifth-placed Chelsea cut to just three points when the Blues play on Sunday, and it is clear that the supporters are beginning to feel the heat.

Aston Villa fans explode after Ollie Watkins miss

Watkins has found life difficult at the top of the pitch in recent weeks, as he has scored just twice in the Premier League since the turn of the year.

The England international has eight league goals so far this term, but four of those came in the space of just over a week between Boxing Day and 3 January.

He has been struggling to finish his chances of late, and that was clear once again when he allowed Wolves defender Yerson Mosquera to recover and block his weak effort after he was put through on goal in the eighth minute.

Villa fans have been keen to see Tammy Abraham start up front of late, and they wasted no time in taking to X to cut into Watkins for his miss.

One supporter suggested that the 30-year-old is “finished” at the club after his recent struggles, while another added that he “made him sick.”

It was also noted that Emery’s “obsession” with Watkins is “killing” Villa’s campaign, while several fans pointed out that Abraham would likely have scored the chance that fell to his counterpart.

Ex-scout expects Ollie Watkins summer sale

Former Villa scout Mick Brown told Football Insider earlier this week that the second city outfit could be open to selling Watkins at the end of the season.

His struggles in front of goal this term haven’t gone unnoticed among the hierarchy at Villa Park, and Brown thinks this could finally be the window when the frontman departs, after several years of links with the Premier League’s elite clubs.

He added that Watkins’ form is now becoming “a major problem” for Villa, given their recent lack of goals, and also noted that Abraham’s promising start may have Villa thinking that they now have enough in the building to live without Watkins.

He has been a fantastic servant for the club in recent years, but if he cannot improve his current form between now and the end of the campaign, then the writing may be on the wall for him.
