‘Only one in six’ of Rangers signings set to dazzle as new deal agreed – pundit

Rangers are taking a “gamble” with their transfers.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Celtic striker Frank McAvennie said that only one in six players that the Gers sign are likely to be successful.

On 15 June, the Light Blues confirmed the arrival of Sam Lammers who becomes the fourth signing of the summer and the sixth arrival of Michael Beale’s reign at Ibrox.

He follows Dujon Sterling, Kieran Dowell and Jack Butland as the latest additions to Rangers’ squad.

Todd Cantwell and Nicolas Raskin joined the Gers in January and the pair have impressed fans with their performances in the second half of the season, particularly former Norwich man Cantwell.

But McAvennie insisted players with ability like Cantwell are a rarity for the Glasgow club.

You might buy six and get one good one,” he told Football Insider.

I do not know if Rangers can afford to buy six at the moment.

Cantwell never blew anyone away but he had a few really good games and everyone can see that he is a really good player but he has got to do that in every game now.

Rangers

I do not know if there is many players that can come in and do that.

They might come to Scotland and do well but I do not think so. It is a gamble. If it works Beale will be the best thing since sliced bread but I can’t see it working.

In other news, Rangers are close to agreeing defender deal after new talks.
