Only ‘two’ Premier League managers are safe from being sacked amid Thomas Frank verdict

Premier League clubs are facing growing discontent among their managers alongside the dismissals of both Ruben Amorim and Enzo Maresca.

That is according to former Man United and Sunderland chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that issues between managers and owners are becoming increasingly common.

Both Amorim and Maresca left their roles after public disagreements with the ownership and Man United and Chelsea respectively, and there could be more to follow.

The likes of Thomas Frank, Arne Slot and even Pep Guardiola have been questioned in the last 12 months, with only a handful of managers considered happy in their positions.

Meanwhile, the likes of Oliver Glasner, Andoni Iraola and Marco Silva are all flirting with exits given their contract situations and are being linked with the Man United job.

Ruben Amorim and Enzo Maresca pave way for more sackings

Brown told Football Insider on 6 January that Man United’s owners were to blame for Amorim’s sacking as he grew tired with their decision-making.

The former scout, who has a wealth of experience working closely alongside elite-level managers including Sir Alex Ferguson for over a decade, insisted more and more managers are growing impatient with their owners in what could prove a “serious problem”.

I think there’s a major shift happening in the Premier League,” he told Football Insider.

“How many managers in the Premier League can you name at the moment who are safe and happy in their jobs? Maybe one or two?

“Either they have the threat of the sack hanging over them, or they’re not happy with the owners and decisions that are being made above them.

“Amorim has been sacked, Maresca quit, Slot is facing criticism at Liverpool, there’s speculation about Guardiola’s future, people are talking about sacking Frank.

“At Palace, you’ve got Glasner complaining that the board hasn’t backed him, you’ve got the Fulham and Bournemouth managers not sure about their contracts and looking elsewhere.

“There seems to be this growing disparity between owners and managers across the league, and that makes the situation difficult for everybody.

“Let’s use Chelsea as an example, if the manager [Maresca] is to be believed, it sounds like it was the owners making decisions and pulling the strings.

“These owners who come in, they’re not football people, they know nothing about the game, but it seems that’s the way things are going and it’s a serious problem.”

Who could be the next Premier League manager sacked?

Following Amorim’s dismissal at Man United, the attention has turned towards who will be next to leave, with West Ham boss Nuno Espirito Santo the favourite.

Brown told Football Insider that Nuno could be sacked by West Ham in the wake of their 2-1 defeat against Nottingham Forest, but that has not been the case.

The Hammers are currently placed 18th in the Premier League table and now sit seven points adrift of safety with Forest extending their advantage.

However, Football Insider revealed on 10 January that West Ham are not expected to sack Nuno immediately and he will be given time to turn things around.

Sources have told Football Insider that Nuno will be given another month at West Ham to try to turn things around, so he is not expected to lose his job anytime soon.
