O’Rourke shares Leicester City January signings update

Leicester City are looking to make several signings in the January transfer window to bolster the squad, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that it will be “hard” for the Foxes to attract players.

Leicester need to sign Premier League proven players who can hit the ground running and help them in their relegation dogfight, but that isn’t easy to do in January.

Footballers will assess their situation and may choose not to join them because they know they’ll be joining a relegation battle and could potentially end up in the Championship next season.

Steve Cooper does want to enhance his options though, and upfront is one of the areas that has been identified to improve upon.

Leicester have scored 14 goals so far this season in the Premier League, with the club currently sitting 15th in the table.

Leicester City have other factors impeding their potential transfer business

It isn’t just players not being attracted to a move to the King Power Stadium that could cause Cooper a problem in an attempt to strengthen his team.

The former Premier League champions also have profit and sustainability rules to consider and financial fair play concerns that surround them.

The Foxes were charged in March with a breach of the Premier League’s PSR rules for the 2022-23 season after they reported losses of £89.7million for that year alone.

Leicester were successful in appealing it and avoided a points deduction, but the club will be keen to avoid getting dragged back into that conversation.

Well-placed sources told Football Insider that the club are not expected to do too much business in January.

Leicester will be back in action on Saturday (23 November) against Chelsea.
