O’Rourke shares West Ham ‘big-name signing’ update

West Ham will have to wait until the next summer transfer window to try and complete a “big-name signing” in the mould of Ademola Lookman, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the Hammers don’t have the funds for a January move.

The Premier League side are interested in the 27-year-old, but it is seen as a “difficult deal” for them to accomplish.

Lookman secured a 14th-place finish in the prestigious Ballon d’Or rankings this year and he is playing Champions League football with Atalanta right now, so it’s unlikely he will be pushing for a move.

West Ham’s finances are going to restrict the club from trying to convince Lookman to return to the Premier League, and the club will have to wait until summer to try to make any big-name signings.

Football Insider previously revealed that Paris Saint-Germain are the frontrunners to sign the forward if he becomes available in the future.

West Ham will need to be patient in trying to sign Ademola Lookman

Lookman has scored five goals and provided five assists in his first 10 games of the season in all competitions, gaining him plenty of admirers.

The Nigeria international is under contract until June 2026 with Atalanta, putting the Italian side in a strong negotiating position if any teams make a move for him.

Lookman also plays in the same position as several of West Ham’s recent big-money signings Crysencio Summerville and Luis Guilherme.
