O’Rourke updates on Wolves January signings amid Christopher Wooh latest

Wolves are monitoring Christopher Wooh as an option to bolster their defensive choices, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Wolves “need defensive reinforcements” and Wooh has been linked to the Midlands outfit.

The six-foot-three defender has been a commanding presence for Rennes this season, and Wolves believe he has the attributes to succeed in the Premier League.

However, Wolves might struggle to sign the 23-year-old due to the finances available to Gary O’Neil in the January transfer window.

Well-placed sources revealed to Football Insider that O’Neill will not have much money to spend when the transfer market opens at the turn of the year.

However, bolstering their defensive options is seen as crucial to Wolves’ attempts to remain in the Premier League this season.

Wolves are looking to Christopher Wooh to help them defensively

O’Neil’s side were dealt a major blow during the summer transfer window after selling Max Kilman to West Ham United, with the club failing to replace him.

That has been reflected in the poor start to the season that Wolves have made defensively, with no team in the Premier League conceding more than their 27 goals in the opening 11 fixtures.

O’Neil has identified Wooh as a player who could help improve them in that aspect, and he has been a regular for Rennes this season.

Wooh has played in all but one of their Ligue 1 fixtures where they have kept three clean sheets in 11 matches, but he is under contract with the French outfit until 2026.

Wolves

In a more attacking sense, Wolves have been backed to re-sign Ruben Neves in a potentially emotional return to Molineux.

Paul Robinson backed the 27-year-old to make a return to his former Premier League team after Neves himself teased that “it’s an open door.”
