Exclusive: Leeds primed for bargain signing as promotion chasers to slash price

Leeds United could land a summer bargain as Oxford United face slashing the asking price for in-demand Cameron Brannagan, Football Insider can reveal.

The goalscoring midfielder is on the target list of the Championship leaders this summer as well as top-flight outfit Burnley.

An Oxford source has told Football Insider that the club may now have to reduce their £3-5million valuation of their prize asset.

League One and League Two clubs are facing financial crisis as a result of the coronavirus pandemic and face letting their star players go to make ends meet.

Prices are expected to fall in this summer’s transfer market as buyers look to exploit potential bargain deals.

Brannagan could fall into that category, with Football Insider first reporting in February that Leeds had been sending talent-spotters to watch him in action.

Oxford are well placed to secure promotion to the Championship if and when the League One season resumes.

They are third in the table and just two points adrift of automatic promotion with nine matches of the campaign remaining.

Brannagan has ignited his career since joining Oxford from Liverpool in January 2018.

He has made 101 appearances for the third-tier side and has developed into one of the best players outside of the top two divisions.

He has made 29 league starts among 36 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring seven times and laying on six assists.

Brannagan has a contract at Oxford that runs until the summer of 2021.

In other Leeds United, a huge update on the future of Gaetano Berardi can be REVEALED.
