‘Pathetic’ – Exclusive: Mills slaughters Tottenham star, tells him to ‘Grow Up’
Danny Mills has slammed “pathetic” Tottenham defender Serge Aurier for leaving his side’s game against Liverpool last night at half-time after being substituted.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former England and Leeds United defender claimed the 28-year-old will have to apologise to Jose Mourinho if he is to have a long-term future at the club.
The Daily Mail report an argument in the home dressing room “kicked off” at half-time as Tottenham were trailing 1-0 leading to Aurier leaving after he was replaced by Harry Winks.
Liverpool’s opening goal came as Sadio Mane drifted in behind Aurier before Roberto Firmino converted his low cross in injury time.
Before Aurier leaving became public knowledge, Mourinho said of the mood at half-time: “It’s difficult to accept the nature of the goal because the goal is in some aspects a replica of the chance they had in the first minute. So it’s, of course, a mood where people is not happy.”
Asked by Football Insider whether the Ivory Coast international will struggle to get back into the Spurs team following the incident, Mills said: “If he’s left then it’s childish, it’s a little bit pathetic. Grow up.
“You had a bad game, you made mistakes, accept it. The world has seen it so just take it on the chin and move on.
“It depends how Aurier comes back into training when they’re back. If he comes back in with a good attitude and says ‘Right OK, I shouldn’t have done that’ and he knuckles down and works hard it is fine. Managers will accept that.
“If he’s left the stadium early he might get a little fine or something or some sort of discipline but nothing too grand I wouldn’t have thought.
“It shouldn’t be too much of a problem.”
