Patrick Bamford: Leeds striker may be out for ‘rest of the season’ after update – pundit

Patrick Bamford may not play again for Leeds United this season, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed “sometimes injury never heal” and Bamford will be “frustrated”.

Marcelo Bielsa revealed yesterday (7 February), via Leeds Live, that the striker’s injury on the bottom of his foot had not improved over the winter break.

He has not featured for Leeds since a goalscoring cameo in the 2-2 draw with Brentford at the beginning of December.

Bamford spent the previous 10 games out with an ankle injury before suffering a hamstring injury against Brentford.

The one-time England international then picked up the injury on his foot while recovering from that hamstring strain.

“Some injuries can heal quick,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“I’ve had injuries that heal quick, knees, calves, hamstrings.

“But some funny parts of your body sometimes never heal, sometimes heal really slowly.

“It sounds like Bamford’s injury is one where it’s going to take a while. There’s nothing you can do with some injuries to help them recover.

“I bet he’s frustrated after such a good start to his Premier League career with Leeds and now there’s no return date.

“Before you know it, the season will be over. We’re in February already, we’ve got around three months left.

“There will be a worry that Bamford may not play again this season.

“Going forward, Leeds need to learn from this. Bamford might have injury problems that come back so they might have to go into the market for a new striker.

“When I was playing you had four strikers at all times but I understand that was because we played 4-4-2. Now with one up front you need to have at least three strikers.”
