Patrick Bamford: Leeds striker may have to undergo surgery after injury latest – pundit

Alan Hutton has raised fears Patrick Bamford may have to undergo surgery after failing to recover from a foot injury at Leeds United.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Scotland defender insisted what seems to be an “insignificant” problem can have a “massive” impact.

Speaking at his press conference on Monday (7 February), Marcelo Bielsa confirmed Bamford’s condition has not improved in the weeks since being sidelined.

The Leeds boss revealed the striker is still not jogging and that there is no potential return date scheduled.

Bamford suffered the problem in training ahead of the clash against Newcastle United (22 January).

Hutton, who suffered a fractured foot bone in 2008, admitted Bamford’s latest layoff could be a “big problem”.

He warned that without a full recovery or possible surgery, the injury could flare up at any given moment.

Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I went through a serious foot injury myself with a fracture and I was out for the best part of a year, so I know how it feels.

“Something that you think is so insignificant is a massive part. You can’t twist, you can’t turn, you can’t run.

“If it’s anything like that, I understand how big a problem it can be. He’s going to have to take his time. I ended up having to get an operation.

“I don’t know exactly what’s wrong with him but you have to be very careful with this. It’s something that can come back out of anything, a tackle, whatever.”

Bamford has already missed much of the season through injury.

He suffered an ankle injury in September before damaging his hamstring in December.
