Patrick Bamford: Pundit fears Bielsa’s latest injury update could relegate Leeds
Frank McAvennie is “seriously worried” about Leeds United after an injury update on Patrick Bamford.
The former West Ham hitman, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claims the Whites could be relegated despite their 3-3 thriller against Aston Villa on Wednesday night.
Speaking at his press conference on Monday (7 January), Marcelo Bielsa revealed there has been no improvement on Bamford’s foot injury in recent weeks.
The Argentine went on to reveal the England striker is still yet to resume jogging since suffering the setback in the buildup to the defeat against Newcastle on 22 January.
McAvennie fears the Whites will be relegated without Bamford’s goals.
“They are missing Bamford so badly,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“He was absolutely brilliant last season and this year he has barely touched the ball.
“We all enjoyed watching him and Leeds don’t really have a backup striker.
“They have the young lad Gelhardt but he’s far from proven at Premier League level.
“I’m still not sure why they didn’t sign a striker either in the summer or last month.
“They must have known about Bamford’s latest injury. Leeds aren’t scoring as much with Bamford out of the team.
“We know from last season that they win games 3-2 or 4-3. But if they are still conceding the goals without scoring they are in trouble.
“That relegation zone is not far off and they are far from safe”

Bamford has made just six appearances for Leeds this season.
His last outing came in early December, where he suffered a hamstring injury.
