Patrick Bamford tipped to start for Leeds United v Norwich after latest – Kenny

Leeds United must accelerate Patrick Bamford’s injury return by “throwing him in” for “60 minutes” against Norwich City on Sunday.

So says former Whites goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 28-year-old England international.

Bamford is one of a number of Leeds United stars who have struggled with injury this season, with Kalvin Phillips and Liam Cooper also enduring lengthy spells on the treatment table.

The former Chelsea striker made his first appearance since early December on Thuesday (10 March), coming off the bench to play 32 minutes in a 3-0 home defeat to Aston Villa.

Kenny insisted Leeds United are “desperately” in need of goals, having scored just two in their last six league games.

When asked if Bamford should start this Sunday’s relegation six-pointer, he told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild: “I think so.

“He might not be up to match fitness and sharpness, but for me – they’ve got to throw him in and see how he does for 60 minutes.

“They need goals, desperately. He came off the bench for 30 minutes, so he must be fit and fully recovered.

“It’s just about getting that match sharpness and adjusting to this new manager, and the only way to do that is to get him back in the team.

“60 minutes could be a massive possibility for the game against Norwich, for me.”

Leeds United

Leeds United have lost each of their last six league matches by an aggregate score of 21-2 and sit just two points clear of the drop zone.

The Whites host rock-bottom Norwich on Sunday (13 March) with the opportunity to move five points clear of danger.
