Patrick Bamford transfer news: ‘I’m hearing whispers’ Crysencio Summerville could leave Leeds United this month

Patrick Bamford will remain at Leeds United after January amid reports of an Elland Road departure but Summerville could leave.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Tottenham and Rangers defender Alan Hutton claimed the Whites would not want to lose any of their “top players” this winter in their bid for promotion back to the Premier League.

Bamford has struggled to find form after returning from a hamstring injury in late September, but he notched his first goal of the season in his first start in Leeds’ 3-0 win over Birmingham City on Monday (1 January).

While he has not scored more than six competitive goals in a season for three full campaigns, his 16-goal haul in the Premier League in 2019/20 shows he does have goalscoring quality.

Hutton feels that this quality will be needed in the Championship this season, meaning that Bamford’s short-term future will be at Elland Road.

“I think they will keep Bamford this January,” he told Football Insider.

“You need a strong squad to get promoted and he’s shown multiple times that he’s capable of scoring goals.

“He’s just been unlikely this season with injuries and his form.

“With the likes of Georginio Rutter up front, it doesn’t help.

“It’s been difficult for him. I’m starting to hear whispers about Crysencio Summerville – could he be on the move?

“So, I don’t think Leeds will want to lose too many high-profile players, especially now.

“They’re seven points off second place and Southampton are really pushing too, so it will be interesting.

“I don’t think they’ll want to lose any of their top players unless they have to.”
