Paul Merson predicts Liverpool v Hull

By Harvey Byrne

Paul Merson believes Liverpool will be held in a draw against Hull when they face each other on Saturday.

The Merseyside giants are preparing to travel to the KCOM Stadium to face the struggling Tigers who are sat all the way down in 19th.

With Liverpool sat as high as fourth many believe the Reds will come out easy victors.

However, Merson has gone against the grain and has surprisingly predicted a 1-1 draw, believing Jurgen Klopp’s side will drop points one again against a so-called lesser team.

“Hull have been playing well since the appointment of Marco Silva,” told Merson to the Sky Sports website.

“They haven’t quite got all the results they wanted but they’ve been giving a decent account of themselves. The problem is the teams around them have been winning. Hull have had some difficult games but if they can get them out of the way, then there will be some winnable ones that follow.

“You don’t know what you are going to get with Liverpool. Because of the defeat to Swansea a couple of weeks ago they put themselves in the position where they needed to beat Chelsea. If they’d have beaten Swansea a draw would have been alright.

“The problem is Chelsea are running away with this because of their results against the sides outside the top six. From the 15 games they’ve played against sides outside the top six, they’ve picked up 14 wins and a draw. That’s incredible, and that’s why they are where they are. The other top six sides, including Liverpool, are dropping points against the so-called lesser teams. I see that continuing for Liverpool this weekend with Hull snatching a draw.”

Liverpool last played Hull in September, bringing an emphatic 5-1 victory for Klopp’s side at Anfield.

Goals from Sadio Mane, Philippe Coutinho and Adam Lallana alongside a James Milner double gave the Reds all three points on that day.

However, Liverpool have hit some extremely poor form since the turn of the year with just one win from nine matches in all competitions.

They will be eager to turn their recent run around as quickly as possible with 10 points currently separating them from league leaders Chelsea.

But, Hull will also be keen to pick up form with the league closing in on it’s final stages as they aim for survival.
