Paul Merson predicts Liverpool v Swansea
By Harvey Byrne
Paul Merson has backed a comfortable Liverpool victory over the struggling Swansea team on Saturday afternoon.
The Merseyside giants are gearing up to host the Welsh side at Anfield in a clash which sees third face 19th.
Many believe it would be quite the shock if Swansea were to walk away with all three points and Sky Sports pundit Merson has seemingly agreed with them.
The former Arsenal midfielder believes complacency is the only thing that could thwart the Reds in an otherwise comfortable 3-0 win.
“It’s a big weekend,” started Merson in his Sky Sports column. “If you look at a few of the top teams you’d like to say they’ve got easy games and they cannot afford to slip up.
“This is one of them. The only thing that can beat Liverpool here is complacency. We’ve just seen what Arsenal did to Swansea, who despite losing 4-0 did okay. I just can’t see anything other than a very comfortable home win.”
Liverpool’s 1-1 draw against Manchester United on Sunday saw the Reds knocked down to third place with Tottenham overtaking them on goal difference.
The top six is incredibly tight with just five points currently separating sixth from second and while the Merseyside giants will know that they have to win to keep up with the pace, they will also still have their eyes on the title.
The club have never won the Premier League crown and Jurgen Klopp will be eager to bring it home after many failed Liverpool attempts.
But, they face a strong challenge from the clubs around them and Chelsea are currently racing seven points clear at the top.
In other Liverpool news, the Reds are currently in loan talks for this defender.
